Student Body
Sacred Heart Academy’s 490 students come from approximately
55 feeder schools and 36 towns in Connecticut. Approximately
90 percent of the student body is Roman Catholic, with the
remainder of varying religious denominations. Of different
cultural backgrounds, the students bring a treasure of
experiences and talents to share.
Campus
Sacred Heart Academy’s 127-acre campus rolls across the
second highest hilltop in the town of Hamden, Connecticut,
about three miles north of New Haven. A long tree-lined
driveway leads to the main building which houses classrooms,
laboratories, the school chapel, the Mary and James DiMeo
Library, art and guidance complexes and administrative
offices. The Philip Paolella, Jr. Recreational Center
includes a gymnasium/auditorium with a seating capacity for
500 spectators, a fitness center and a stage for drama
productions. In addition, the area provides two music rooms
and a conference center.
Resources
Among the school’s resources are 21 classrooms, three
extensive science laboratories, a chapel, more than 100
computers, a multimedia language learning center, music and
art rooms, a media production center, a combination
gymnasium/auditorium that seats 500, a fitness
center, a lecture hall with a stage, three playing fields, and a
full-service cafeteria that serves breakfast (in the morning
and at mid-morning break) and lunch. SHA presently uses the
pool at Albertus Magnus College for swim team practices and
meets and the tennis courts at Quinnipiac University and
Paradise Country Club for practices and matches.
Faculty
Sacred Heart has 47 full-time and part-time faculty members,
80 percent of whom hold one or more master’s degrees.
